Myofascial cupping is a modern adaptation of traditional cupping techniques to aid in release of the fascia and restore tissue mobility. Instead of pressing into the muscle and tissues with the massage, cupping is the opposite as the muscle, fascia and tissue is gently pulled up with light suction. The massage therapist may place cups along the muscle lines or combine the cupping with other techniques such as trigger point to increase the effectiveness of the treatment. Massage and stretching techniques may be combined with the application of the slightly suctioned cups for myofascial release. Other benefits that may occur are break up of scar tissue and movement of excess fluids and toxins.
